About Tightlines Tackle Company

Tightlines Tackle began in 1992 making and selling tuna gear and tackle to giant bluefin tuna fishermen in the northeast US. During the early 90's, fishermen targeting giant bluefin tuna started using spreader bar rigs made with plastic shell squid. The spreader bars were usually made with 13 or 18 inch shell squid, 15 hung on a 4 foot stainless steel bar with a trailing hook bait. Tightlines Tackle designed a line of 14 exclusive color patterns of shell squid that set the standard for others to follow. Many of these original colors are still widely used today by fishermen targeting giant bluefin tuna, yellow fin tuna, big eye tuna, billfish, dolphin and other big game fish. While these colors have been copied and manufactured by low cost suppliers outside the US, Tightlines shell squid are still being manufactured in the USA.

When the commercial handliners switched to PENN 130 International reels and 130 class bent butt rods to catch giant bluefin tuna, Tightlines increased its product line to include the top names in the industry. Names like Jinkai, Mustad, Gamakatsu, Yo-Zuri, Yamashita Squid, Spro, Momoi, Owner, Malin, PENN, Lee's Tackle, Shimano are some of the high quality manufacturers that make up the product line at Tightlines Tackle. Still today it is the Tightlines sales policy to sell only the best products available. Many products are not carried because they do not meet the standards set by Tightlines Tackle.
